About me

PETR STRANIK

ARTIST/ILLUSTRATOR

Born and raised in Highlands of Bohemia this fellow loves visual creativity since he was a little child. His big influences from such times were Czech illustrator Zdenek Burian and great painter Alphonz Mucha. In recent years he's influenced mainly by golden age of illustration from US (Norman Rockwell, J.C Leyendecker, N.C. Wyeth, Howard Pyle, Cornwell and many others). Main topics of his work include characters, animals and visual storytelling either from the realm of the fine art world or illustration: "I think that a line between illustration and Fine art is really blurred and often merges together. In both cases it is necessary to know all the keystone principles to produce high quality work regardless of the medium." That is one of the reasons that Petr loves to study old masters from renaissance till present days. He found a great help with those studies on the New Master Academy web sites, where he attends courses as much as he can. "I think that studies of such a discipline as a fine art and illustration is ongoing and never ending process and I believe that my "art degree" will be the amount of work behind me at the end of my life."

Petr is currently working on a comic book with illustration studio called Ice Colours based in Prague. He's making illustration for one of the short stories. He works as a freelancer for book covers, book illustrations, fantasy illustrations, marketing, album covers and makes a Fine art pieces on the side. He makes also commission portraits from photographs in charcoal for overseas clients.

Every sign of your appreciation for my art journey fills me with an unbelievable gratitude!
